Flexible Tour: Easy Trains / Easy Terrain
Monday 11th – Monday 19th May 2026

Mostly cycling through areas of predominantly easy terrain with some hillier days which are generally of a not too taxing nature!

This will be a Flexible tour (see below *).

All days are moving-on with daily distances varying between 55km and 80km, taking us through changing landscapes: rolling hillier inland areas, low level Fenlands, and the East Anglian coast.

The route, starting in Northamptonshire, takes us on through parts of Rutland, South Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk and finally returning through the more familiar Sunday ride countryside of Essex for a finish close to London at Shenfield.

This is a very popular tour, and places are limited. Contact us if you want to be added to the waiting list.

Tour Guidelines for Participants

To be eligible to join a tour, prospective Tour Riders need to be Cycling UK members and have ridden with the 2* group (or another CLCTC ride group) regularly.

The process of joining the tour starts when the tour details are published on the Club website. Tour Riders should review the specific characteristics of the tour style in the Tour Leader’s tour description to ensure that these match their requirements for an enjoyable tour. Tour style will typically be *Traditional Touring (where tour members will focus on cycling together throughout the tour, having refreshment stops and eating meals as a group, and daily rides will allow for scheduled and unscheduled sightseeing stops for all) or *Flexible Touring (where tour members will ride as a group or have the option to cycle either individually or in small groups. Socialising as a whole group will generally occur at the end of each day’s ride).

If the ride description matches the Rider's expectations they should apply to the Tour Organiser for a place on the tour. At this stage, this is an 'expression of interest' and a place will be held for them for a limited time while the Rider reviews the detailed Tour itinerary, which will be sent to them by the Tour Organiser. Once they are satisfied that the tour arrangements work for them, they should confirm their place by booking travel and accommodation, advising the Tour Organiser of the status of their bookings. In addition, they should use the tour WhatsApp group to share knowledge which will help other participants or seek advice for tour specific questions from them.

Acceptance onto tours is subject to places being available and is at the discretion of the leader.

If the ride description does not meet the Rider’s expectations, they should let the Tour Organiser know that they will not proceed, so that the place can be released to someone on the waiting list.

Should the tour be fully booked when the Rider contacts the Tour Organiser to express their interest, they can ask to join the waiting list and will be allocated a place in the event of cancellations.

Should a change in circumstances mean that a Tour Rider can no longer join the tour, they should let the Tour Organiser know as soon as possible so that their place can be given to a rider on the waiting list.

Importantly, considering the amount of work for the Tour Leader and the Tour Organiser in organising and running the tour, Tour Riders should be prepared to help proactively in supporting its smooth running, including:

  • Maintaining good riding etiquette by,
    • taking turns to back mark;
    • marking corners as a matter of course, especially where route maps are not provided;
    • helping fix other Riders’ mechanical issues.
  • Sharing the admin load on the tour by,
    • assisting with finding suitable restaurants and meal bookings;
    • leading daily rides, if needed.

In general, Tour Riders should keep in mind the tour style as given by the Tour Leader in the description of the tour. Not only will this collaborative approach ensure that the tour is a success, but it will also make it an enjoyable holiday for all participants.

Any questions regarding these guidelines should be discussed with the Tour Leader/Tour Organiser.
